Flatweave rugs
Kelim and Berber-Kelim
The rug is the soul of a room. As a knotted or woven work of art, it decorates the fifth wall: the floor. Rug art is also versatile. It can be abstract and geometric, modern and dynamic or discreet and subtle. It can transport centuries-old ornaments into the present, play with sculptural structures and with different materials such as grippy highland wool and fine, shiny silk. The rugs of the Middleway Gallery combine design with old handicraft techniques. They are partly designed by international artists and handmade in Iran, Morocco, India or Nepal - which makes each piece unique.
In the Middleway Gallery we show you flatweave rugs such as Kelim and Berber-Kelim, original Moroccan Beni Ouarain, fine Persian hand-knotted rugs and design rugs from three renowned, very different suppliers, currently: Henzel Studio, The Rug Company and Zollanvari.
